Amazon Planet: 4 Days in the Amazon with the Canon R8

Visiting the Amazon had always been one of those lifelong dreams. So, during our trip through Peru, we decided to spend 4 unforgettable days exploring the Amazon, navigating along the Madre de Dios River, and discovering this incredible part of the world. This time, I brought my DJI Air 3S and my Canon R8 to capture every moment of this amazing adventure.

We landed in Puerto Maldonado, a small city in the heart of southern Peru, where we were picked up and taken downstream to what would become our home for the next four days: Amazon Planet, a sustainable lodge deep in the rainforest.

The journey along the Madre de Dios River already makes you feel part of something much bigger — nature in its purest form. The following four days in the Amazon promised to be unforgettable.

If you’d like to see our full adventure in the Amazon and learn more about Amazon Planet and the Taricaya Reserve, here’s the video I made of the trip:

Amazon Planet: Living in the Amazon from a Sustainable Lodge

To spend these 4 days in the Amazon, we decided to stay at a lodge called Amazon Planet.
Amazon Planet Peru is a sustainable lodge in the Amazon that combines comfort, sustainability, and a deep respect for the environment. Surrounded by primary rainforest and located just an hour’s boat ride from Puerto Maldonado, it’s the kind of place that lets you completely disconnect from the outside world — and truly reconnect with nature.

The lodge is built using local materials, powered by solar energy, and actively participates in wildlife conservation and reforestation projects. There’s no Wi-Fi or cell service, but you honestly don’t need them, the sounds of the jungle replace your notifications. And trust me, it’s an incredible feeling, even better than you can imagine.

They offer 3, 4, and 5-day programs, each with different activities depending on how long you stay.
We chose the 4-day program, and honestly, it was an 11/10 experience. Each day was perfectly balanced between exploration, learning, and relaxation.
Among the activities we enjoyed were jungle hikes (both day and night), excursions to natural parks, and a visit to the Taricaya Ecological Reserve.

And the food… simply amazing. Everything is made with local ingredients, and they offer vegetarian and vegan options. In such a remote setting, eating so well was one of the most pleasant surprises of the trip.

From the very first moment, we felt that Amazon Planet wasn’t just accommodation, it was a complete experience: sleeping in the jungle, waking up to the sounds of birds, and sharing moments with local guides who know every corner of the forest.

Visiting the Taricaya Reserve: Rescue and Conservation in the Amazon

One of the most special moments of the trip was visiting the Taricaya Ecological Reserve, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center that collaborates closely with Amazon Planet.

There, we learned about the work of biologists and volunteers who care for animals rescued from illegal trafficking or other dangerous situations. Some of the temporary residents of Taricaya include toucans, monkeys, jaguars, and macaws, which, after a recovery process, are released back into the wild.

Capturing this process with my Canon R8, always with respect and without interfering, was one of the most moving experiences of the entire trip.
Getting to know this kind of project helps you understand that responsible tourism can have a truly positive impact when done consciously.
Amazon Planet not only offers accommodation, but also environmental education and active support for conservation, which we deeply appreciated.

Exploring the Jungle with the Canon R8

One of the most breathtaking moments was venturing out along the trails surrounding the lodge. From the very first step, you realize you’re in another world. Every corner of the Amazon is full of life, and the constant sounds of animals are simply mesmerizing.

As I mentioned earlier, I brought my Canon R8 on this trip, and it was an amazing experience. I was able to capture larger species like howler monkeys and squirrels, as well as smaller ones like tiny frogs and insects.
The video you saw at the beginning was shot in C-log3, with all the color grading done using my own LUTs.

If you’re passionate about photography, the Amazon is a visual paradise, and Amazon Planet is the perfect base to explore it from.

These four days at Amazon Planet Peru were truly unforgettable. We disconnected from the digital world, immersed ourselves in the rainforest, and experienced nature from the inside out.

The Amazon has a way of transforming you, it teaches you to slow down, to observe, to listen.

If you’re thinking about traveling to the Amazon, whether for adventure, photography, or simply out of curiosity, Amazon Planet Peru is an ideal choice. Not only for its location and services, but for its genuine commitment to the environment and its ability to make you feel part of something much greater.

And if you’re bringing your camera, like my faithful Canon R8, get ready, you’ll come back with some of the best memories of your life.

To sum it up, this trip through the Amazon with Amazon Planet Peru was one of the best experiences of my life.
